Holy Trinity is the hillside neighborhood in the west-central part of San Pedro, named for the church at 1292 West Santa Cruz Street and running from the 7th Street corridor south toward Averill Park, west of Gaffey Street and east of Western Avenue. It is a residential grid on a slope, older toward Gaffey and newer toward Western, and it sits at the seam between the two neighborhood councils and, a few blocks west, between two cities.

Where exactly is Holy Trinity?

Commonly described, it is the blocks around Santa Cruz, Miraflores and Sepulveda Streets west of Gaffey, with Averill Park and Vista del Oro to the south and the Peck Park corridor to the north. The City’s certified council layer places it in the Northwest San Pedro Neighborhood Council, whose Averill seat it describes as bounded by 7th Street and Miraleste Drive on the north, Leland Street on the east, Western Avenue and the city boundary on the west and 18th Street on the south, per the council website. East of Leland is Central San Pedro. All of it is Los Angeles City Council District 15.

The City’s SurveyLA historic resources report records that San Pedro’s western hillside neighborhoods emerged in the 1920s and that most postwar expansion took place in the hillside areas west of Weymouth Street and Western Avenue. The San Pedro Community Plan adds that the northwest portion of San Pedro was the last to be developed, with most of its single-family homes built between 1960 and 1980. Holy Trinity spans both eras, which is visible street by street.

Averill Park at 1300 Dodson Avenue on the southern edge, with its stream and ponds. Alma Park at West 21st and Meyler Streets, Bandini Canyon Park between Bandini Street and Marshall Court, and Daniels Field Sports Center at 845 West 12th Street with free tennis, all City of Los Angeles Recreation and Parks facilities per the City facilities layer. Peck Park, the largest park in San Pedro, is a few blocks north at 560 North Western Avenue.

Holy Trinity is inside the Los Angeles Unified School District, and the attendance line between two middle schools runs through it. The City’s published 2019-20 attendance boundaries return Bandini Street Elementary at 425 North Bandini Street and Rudecinda Sepulveda Dodson Middle School at 28014 Montereina Drive for the northern blocks near the church, and 7th Street Elementary Arts Integration Magnet at 1570 West 7th Street with Richard Henry Dana Middle School at 1501 South Cabrillo Avenue for the blocks toward Averill Park. San Pedro High School at 1610 South Leland Street serves both. The Dodson and Dana line falls somewhere between Santa Cruz Street and 13th Street. Attendance assignment is by address and changes; confirm any specific address with LAUSD’s resident school lookup rather than a listing or this page.

Permit history on the older blocks. Fire hazard severity, which the current state mapping does not place on these blocks but which is confirmed per parcel on the state map.
