What does it cost to lease a home in the South Bay?

The range is wide because the inventory is. Apartments and smaller condos inland start in the low thousands a month. Beachfront houses on the Strand and in the Hermosa and Manhattan Sand Sections run into the tens of thousands a month, and the very top of that market is seasonal. The feed above shows what is actually listed today rather than an average.

Why do people lease here before they buy?

Because the beach cities are three genuinely different towns and the city line changes the rules, the schools and the parking. A year in one of them tells you more than any amount of touring. Relocating buyers who lease first tend to buy in a different city than the one they expected.

Are these listings the same as what is on the rental sites?

Not quite. This feed is the MLS, which is where agent-represented leases are posted. Listings marketed privately or only on consumer rental sites will not appear here, and some MLS leases never reach those sites. It is worth looking in both places.

Do lease listings move faster than sales?

Generally yes, particularly under about ten thousand a month and particularly in summer. If something looks right it is worth seeing the same week rather than the following one.
