For four decades, buyers and sellers on the Palos Verdes Peninsula and the South Bay’s Beach Cities have relied on one family for deep, reliable real estate market knowledge.
It began with a newspaper ad. In 1984, not long after arriving from Bangalore, Raju Chhabria answered a listing that promised unlimited income and drove out to Palos Verdes for the interview. The job was nothing. The place was everything. He looked out over the peninsula and promised himself that one day he would live here. He was licensed that November; his wife, Philomina, then a nurse at Little Company of Mary in Torrance, earned her own license ten months later. From 1995 to 2014, Raju was the number one agent at Shorewood Realtors, every single year, for two decades without a break.
In time, he kept that promise, building an estate on Lower Paseo La Cresta that he personally designed with architect Tony Ashai.
Raju’s sons, Neil and Anand, grew up in the business, right at their father’s side. After earning a business degree from the University of San Diego, Neil came in as his father’s partner, not his employee. In 2016 the Chhabria family restructured the business, returning to an independently owned and operated family model.
