Updated October 3, 2026

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s Beach Cities is Saturday, October 10, 2026 at Hermosa Beach Pier Plaza, 1 Pier Avenue. The site opens at 9:00 AM, the ceremony begins at 10:00 AM, and the ribbon cutting and the walk start at 10:30 AM. Our family will be there, the way we were last October, and you are welcome to walk with us.

Why does our family walk?

Our father is the reason. Raju Chhabria sold homes on the Palos Verdes Peninsula and in the Beach Cities from 1984 until his death in June 2025, and he is honored at this year’s walk. Four decades of work in one place left a long list of people who knew him: clients he represented twice and three times, agents he trained, neighbors who stopped him on Pier Avenue. A lot of them walked with us last October, four months after we lost him.

What he taught the two of us about the work is written down, a piece at a time, on our Raju Taught Us page. This is what the family does with a Saturday morning in October. More about the firm and how it got here is on our About page.

Who is on the Chhabria team?

H2O Hermosa sponsors the team and walks it. The hotel at 1429 Hermosa Avenue is owned by the family, one block off the Strand and a short walk up from Pier Plaza, and it is covered in detail on our Where to Stay page. Their staff walk with us.

How can you join or give?

Registration is handled on the Alzheimer’s Association event page for the Beach Cities walk. You can sign up on your own, start a team, or join ours. The same page takes donations if you would like to give instead.

Pier Plaza is at 1 Pier Avenue in Hermosa Beach. The site opens at 9:00 AM, the ceremony is at 10:00 AM, and the walk steps off at 10:30 AM. Parking near Pier Plaza fills early on a Saturday morning, so give yourself time.

What did last year look like?

The photograph at the top of this post was taken at the 2025 walk, on Pier Avenue, on a clear October morning. Purple shirts, white caps, and a crowd that kept growing as the ceremony got closer.
