Prepared Peninsula Expo 2026: Free Preparedness Event, Sunday, October 25

Illustration of an outdoor community safety expo on a grassy coastal hillside. A white A-frame sandwich board at the left reads SAFETY EXPO TODAY in blue capitals, with a cluster of blue, red, orange, yellow and green balloons tied above it. People of varied ages and backgrounds stand in small groups, nearly all seen from behind: a small child in a hooded top holding an adult's hand, teenagers in hoodies at a table of stacked water bottles and red emergency kits, and a woman holding a golden retriever on a leash beside a small terrier. Two white canopy tents, a red fire engine with its compartments open, eucalyptus, dry grassy slopes and the ocean beyond.

The Prepared Peninsula Expo runs Sunday, October 25, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School, 27118 Silver Spur Road in Rolling Hills Estates. Admission is free and lunch is free while supplies last. Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills and Rolling Hills Estates put it on with the PV Farmers Market.

It runs three hours on a Sunday morning. Below are the errands worth doing while you are in the room, and what each one is worth to someone who owns on the Peninsula.

What does the Expo cost, and do I need to register?

Admission is free, there is no ticket, and there is no sign-up list. Lunch is free while supplies last, which is the only part of the morning that can run out. The City of Rancho Palos Verdes lists Emergency Management Coordinator Luna Mohammad, [email protected], as the contact for questions ahead of the date.

Free to walk in, and the morning covers the preparedness errands most Peninsula owners have been putting off.

What is at the Expo?

The city’s listing names dozens of exhibitors, demonstrations and equipment displays. Local organizations hand out tips and tools. Retail vendors sell preparedness goods, including extended life water, emergency bags and meals ready to eat. The subjects run from mitigation through response and recovery, for earthquake, wildfire and other disasters, and the program covers pets alongside people.

If you have been meaning to build a kit and have not gotten to it, the supplies and the people who use them are in the same room.

What should I settle while I am there?

Three things, in this order. Each one takes a few minutes at a table and is harder to finish from a laptop at home.

Your evacuation zone

The Peninsula is divided into evacuation zones, and an evacuation order names the zone, not the street and not the city. If an alert says a zone is leaving and you do not know which zone your address sits in, you lose the minutes you most need. Look it up at PVPReady.gov under Find Your Zone, or have someone at the table do it with you. We walked through the lookup step by step in how to find your evacuation zone on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

Your Alert SouthBay registration

Alert SouthBay is the notification system the cities across the South Bay use, Rancho Palos Verdes among them. It is opt-in, which means an unregistered phone gets nothing. Alerts go out by email, text, and voice calls to both cell and landline numbers. Register at alertsouthbay.com/register, or text ALERTSB to 888777.

You can subscribe to more than one city. An owner who lives in Rolling Hills Estates and works in El Segundo can register for both and hear about the one they are not standing in.

Your brush clearance and the questions only fire personnel can answer

Fire and sheriff personnel are at the Expo with their vehicles and equipment, so you can ask them something specific about your own lot. Bring the question you have been putting off. Rancho Palos Verdes also maintains brush clearance information, wildfire detection cameras, and a helicopter firefighting water source at the Ken Dyda Civic Center, and the City’s Emergency Preparedness Committee sends a monthly preparedness email you can join.

What an hour at the Expo is worth if you own here

Preparedness on the Peninsula is also an insurance question. Carriers look at brush exposure, access and construction when they price a home here, and the measures the Expo exists to explain are the same ones that come up at renewal. Anything specific to your own policy belongs with your carrier or broker.

If you own, the useful outcome is a shorter list of unknowns before your next renewal. If you are buying on the Peninsula, the useful outcome is knowing which questions to put to a seller and to your own carrier before you remove contingencies, because a property’s brush and access situation does not change at close of escrow.

Who hosts it, and where the information comes from

Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills and Rolling Hills Estates host the Expo together, in partnership with the PV Farmers Market, at Peninsula High. PVPReady.gov, the Know Your Zone site, is run by the Palos Verdes Peninsula cities with the Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management, and it is where the zone map lives year round.

We do our very best to supply facts drawn from official sources so that the information you find here is reliable and accurate. If we find conflicting information, we report on all of it. One note on that: a Palos Verdes Estates Neighborhood Watch page about the Expo is still showing the 2024 edition and prints two different dates on the same page. The Rancho Palos Verdes city calendar carries the 2026 date with the year printed, and the weekday matches, so October 25, 2026 is the date to work from.

Next from us on this subject: the October 27 edition takes up California’s FAIR Plan and what has changed for Peninsula owners who cannot place coverage on the open market. The fire hazard severity zone maps the State Fire Marshal issued in 2025 are working their way through city adoption, and we will report where each Peninsula city landed once the councils have acted.
