People who move to the South Bay tend to ask where to train before they ask where to eat, and the honest answer depends on the discipline, not the city, because the studios cluster by type: reformer Pilates along Pacific Coast Highway, hot yoga in Hermosa and Redondo, the CrossFit boxes in the light-industrial blocks, and the big clubs on the Peninsula and in El Segundo. This page is organized that way. Every studio below was confirmed on its own website on September 17, 2026, with an address inside the South Bay and no sign of closure; the ones we could not confirm are named at the end rather than quietly dropped. We report what each operator says about itself and rank nothing.
Where is the yoga?
Unheated and mixed-temperature studios: Harmony Yoga at 901 North Pacific Coast Highway in Redondo Beach (vinyasa, yin, yoga nidra, fundamentals, sound baths, kids classes; drop-ins and monthly memberships, with livestream included), LYFE Yoga at 1089 Aviation Boulevard in Hermosa Beach (Iyengar and hatha, which is rarer here than flow), and YogaSix in Redondo Beach at 403 North PCH and in the Rolling Hills Plaza at 2919 Rolling Hills Road in Torrance, each running six formats from restorative to sculpt. CorePower has heated rooms in Manhattan Beach (3200 North Sepulveda), Hermosa Beach (1559 PCH) and Torrance (24329 Crenshaw).
Hot yoga proper, meaning rooms held above 100 degrees, is a Hermosa and Redondo specialty. West Coast Sweat at 518 Pier Avenue in Hermosa Beach teaches the 26-posture Bikram series alongside hot Pilates and strength; the same address also answers to its earlier Bikram Yoga Hermosa Beach name, so treat the two listings as one room. The HotYoga Center at 1820 South PCH in Redondo Beach keeps every class at 105 degrees or more and writes for beginners. Kefi Yoga, opened in 2020 at 23812 Crenshaw Boulevard in Torrance, runs heated flow and sculpt plus park classes. HOTWORX in Torrance and San Pedro is a different animal: 24-hour infrared sauna pods with virtual instruction for yoga, Pilates, barre and cycling. Hot 8 Yoga lists a South Bay studio at 740 South Allied Way in El Segundo, in the space YogaWorks vacated, but its page still read as pre-opening when we checked.
Where is reformer Pilates, and where is mat?
This is the deepest category in the South Bay, and the useful distinction is whether a studio runs full apparatus (reformer, Cadillac, chairs, towers) or group reformer only. Full-equipment rooms with private and duet work: South Bay Pilates at 209 West Grand Avenue in El Segundo (reformer, Cadillac, Wunda chairs, barrels and towers, plus a $20 mat class that is free the first time), Every Body’s Pilates at 1530 Cravens Avenue in Torrance (since 2005), Love Your Core at 24239 Hawthorne Boulevard in Torrance (reformer, mat, EXO chair, TRX and a cardio “Jump” class), The Pilates Room at 3205 Manhattan Avenue in Hermosa Beach, and White House Pilates with rooms in Hermosa Beach (1332 Hermosa Avenue), North Redondo (2205 Artesia Boulevard) and Torrance (2845 PCH), running privates, semi-privates and small-group reformer and mat classes.
Group reformer and the fitness-Pilates end: RockIt Body, established 2009, in Manhattan Beach (1834 North Sepulveda) and Redondo Beach (1718 South Catalina); ShapeShift at 234 South PCH in Redondo Beach (private, semi-private and groups of four to eight); Fit Culture with five rooms across San Pedro, Torrance and Redondo Beach, two of them heated; Coreology, whose proprietary XFormer classes run in Manhattan Beach (3160 North Sepulveda) and on Deep Valley Drive in Rolling Hills Estates; and Club Pilates in Redondo Beach, Torrance, West Torrance, Peninsula Center and San Pedro, each with a free intro class. In Westchester, Archer Pilates is working from a temporary studio at 9100 South Sepulveda after a January 2026 building fire. Mat-only work also runs at the Beach Cities Health District’s Center for Health and Fitness (below) and inside LA Fitness in Rancho Palos Verdes and Equinox on the Peninsula.
Where is barre?
The Bar Method has studios at 1221 Hermosa Avenue in Hermosa Beach and 429 Silver Spur Road in Rolling Hills Estates, with a Level 2 class and prenatal modifications. Pure Barre is at 403 North PCH in Redondo Beach and 28134 South Western Avenue in San Pedro, four formats each. Barreworks, inside Fusion Studios at 22236 Palos Verdes Boulevard in Seaside Village, mixes barre with trampoline sculpt, barre boxing and 45-minute express classes and streams everything live and on demand. The Barre Hub in Redondo Beach, still in some directories, has a dead domain.
Where are the CrossFit boxes and the functional gyms?
The oldest is CrossFit South Bay at 725 5th Street in Hermosa Beach, running since 2008 with CrossFit, HYROX and open gym. CrossFit Manhattan Beach at 1731 Sepulveda Boulevard, opened 2017, is membership only and has not taken drop-ins since 2023. CrossFit 310 at 811 North Catalina Avenue in Redondo Beach runs a three-session on-ramp, a teens program and a 65-plus program. Torrance Training Lab at 23510 Telo Avenue covers Olympic lifting, powerlifting and gymnastics under one roof; Heyday Elite Fitness at 279 West 7th Street in San Pedro does CrossFit, HYROX and kids fitness; DEUCE Athletics at 600 PCH in Hermosa is the South Bay outpost of the Venice strength gym. The franchised interval formats: F45 in Manhattan Beach (2001 North Sepulveda) and Hermosa Beach (1038 Hermosa Avenue), Orangetheory in Torrance (3730 PCH), Barry’s South Bay in El Segundo’s Allied Way campus, BFT at 234 South PCH in Redondo Beach, Body One Fitness at 201 Herondo Street on the Hermosa and Redondo line, and Unlimited Fitness at 3219 Manhattan Avenue in Hermosa, with more than sixty group classes a week.
Where do you box?
Thin, and thinner than it was: Elite Training Center on South PCH closed on June 23, 2026 after 23 years, and the Mayweather studio that followed it into Redondo is no longer on the chain’s directory. What remains: UFC Gym at 19800 Hawthorne Boulevard in Torrance (jiu-jitsu, MMA classes and a full floor), 9Round at 1109 Aviation Boulevard in Hermosa Beach (30-minute kickboxing circuits, no class times), Harbor Fitness for Life on Whaler’s Walk in San Pedro (kickboxing for all levels with drop-ins), boxing and kickboxing classes at Afterburn Athletic Club at 1133 Artesia Boulevard in Manhattan Beach, and a boxing studio inside the Bay Club in Redondo Beach. Equinox South Bay in Hawthorne, just outside our scope, has one too.
Where do you climb, and where do you spin?
Indoor climbing means Westchester: Sender One LAX at 11220 Hindry Avenue has bouldering, top-rope and lead on 60-foot walls, a training floor, a yoga studio and Sender City for children. Hangar 18 South Bay in Hawthorne is the nearest alternative. No city recreation center in the South Bay runs a climbing wall. Standalone cycling studios are down to CycleBar Torrance at 21207 Hawthorne Boulevard; SoulCycle’s Manhattan Beach page shows no classes. Bikes otherwise live inside larger rooms: Coreology’s CoreCYCLE in Manhattan Beach and Rolling Hills Estates, HOTWORX’s infrared cycle pods, and the cycling studios at Equinox Palos Verdes, both Bay Clubs and 24 Hour Fitness in Hermosa Beach.
Which are the full clubs and gyms?
The public option is the Beach Cities Health District’s Center for Health and Fitness at 514 North Prospect Avenue in Redondo Beach, a certified medical fitness facility with yoga, Pilates, group exercise and training, open to all ages and levels on a membership; the District’s fees are on our free and low-cost fitness page. On the Peninsula, Equinox Palos Verdes at 550 Deep Valley Drive has a 23-meter saltwater lap pool, cycling and yoga-barre studios and a spa. The Bay Club runs three properties: Redondo Beach at 819 North Harbor Drive (pool, tennis, boxing, racquetball), El Segundo at 2250 Park Place (105,000 square feet with a 14,000-square-foot kids’ clubhouse) and the Manhattan Country Club at 1330 Parkview Avenue, which publishes its terms: $995 a month per household with a $25,000 initiation. The chains with pools are 24 Hour Fitness in Hermosa Beach and twice in Torrance, and LA Fitness at 28901 South Western Avenue in Rancho Palos Verdes. Neighborhood gyms with their own sites: Easton Gym at 505 Main Street in El Segundo, Anytime Fitness in El Segundo and Hermosa Beach, Planet Fitness in Torrance, and West Coast Barbell at 1861 North Gaffey Street in San Pedro, open daily from 5:00 AM. No city in the South Bay runs a public weight room that we could confirm.
What about swimming that is not a public pool?
Lap swimming for the public is on our Public Pools page. The private options are South Bay Aquatics, which owns its pools at 2012 Artesia Boulevard in Redondo Beach and 2433 Moreton Street in Torrance and sells fitness memberships from age 14 alongside lessons, Big Blue Swim School at 21880 Hawthorne Boulevard in Torrance with adult lessons, and the member pools at the Manhattan Country Club, both Bay Clubs, Equinox Palos Verdes, the three 24 Hour Fitness clubs and LA Fitness.
What we could not verify
A number of studios that appear in directories have websites that would not load for us on the day (Shine Studio and Allomi in Redondo Beach, SoHo Yoga in Hermosa Beach, Playa Pilates in Playa del Rey, Boxing Works in Torrance among them); they may well be open, and they are omitted rather than listed. Others have live sites that show no South Bay street address, which is our minimum bar. Chain locations that a directory places in Manhattan Beach or El Segundo but that the chain’s own locator does not list (Club Pilates, Pure Barre, CycleBar, 24 Hour Fitness, Orangetheory, F45) are left off until the chain says otherwise. Every intro offer changes monthly, so we have printed only the standing ones and none of the September promotions.
How does this bear on where you live?
If a daily class is part of the routine, the map above sorts itself: the reformer studios and hot rooms line PCH through Hermosa and Redondo, which favors a Sand Section or South Redondo address; the Peninsula’s serious rooms cluster at Deep Valley Drive and Silver Spur, a short drive from anywhere in Rolling Hills Estates or the Silver Spur neighborhoods; and the big-club life is in El Segundo and Manhattan Beach. The button below runs a live search across the sixteen Beach Cities MLS areas.
