The South Bay does not do the Fourth of July the same way city to city. Two places put on fireworks, one does a drone show, and one of the best known beach cities has no evening display at all.
Knowing which is which is the difference between a good evening and driving somewhere that has nothing on.
Where are the 4th of July fireworks in the South Bay?

Other South Bay cities including Hermosa Beach, Torrance and El Segundo run their own Independence Day events, and formats vary year to year. Check the city.
Which is the main one?
Redondo Beach, over King Harbor. It is the closest thing the beach cities have to a single anchor event on the night, and the harbor setting means the display sits over water with the boats underneath it.
Public viewing is available at Seaside Lagoon. The harbor edge fills, so the practical advice is the same as for the Holiday Boat Parade in December: arrive well before you think you need to, and expect the surrounding streets to be full.
Why does Manhattan Beach not have fireworks?
It simply does not run an evening display. This surprises people every year, because Manhattan Beach has a pier, a wide beach and the profile you would expect to come with a show.
What it runs instead is daytime programming, including a pool party at Begg Pool with water games, swimming and music.
So if you are in Manhattan Beach on the Fourth and you want a display, you are traveling. Redondo is the nearest option and it is a short drive or a long walk down the Strand.
What is the Rancho Palos Verdes drone show?
An after-dark drone display rather than pyrotechnics, closing out a city celebration that runs through the evening with live country music, line dancing, food trucks, carnival games, inflatables, and beer and wine.
Drone shows have been replacing fireworks in a number of California cities in recent years. The usual reasons given are fire risk, noise, and effects on wildlife, all of which carry particular weight on a coastal peninsula with open hillside.
If you have not seen one, it is a genuinely different thing rather than a lesser substitute. Quieter, which people either love or find anticlimactic.
San Pedro and Cabrillo Beach
A free fireworks display over Cabrillo Beach from around 9pm, with a separate ticketed evening event at the Plaza at Cabrillo Way Marina beforehand.
Cabrillo is the harbor side rather than the open coast, which makes for a sheltered viewing spot and a different feel from the beach city displays.
Practical notes
- Parking is the constraint, not seating. Every one of these fills the streets around it.
- Personal fireworks are illegal in these cities and enforcement is active. This is a dry coastal state in July.
- Check the city each year. Formats change, and a city that ran a display last year may not this year.
- Beaches and lots close early on the Fourth in some cities. Confirm before you plan a long day.
- If you live near a venue, expect a hard night for parking and noise. Worth knowing before you buy, not after.
