Mobile Dog Groomers in the South Bay

A mobile groomer brings the table to your driveway, which matters for a dog that travels badly.

A van in the driveway beats a morning of drop-off and pickup, and for a dog that comes apart in a salon it is the difference between a groom and an ordeal. Six operators run the South Bay, and each one draws its service area differently, so the first question is always whether your street is on the list.

Which mobile groomers cover the South Bay?

Barkbus. (323) 701-1532, call or text. Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance, El Segundo, Gardena, Carson and San Pedro, with separate pages for Rancho Palos Verdes and Palos Verdes Estates. Dogs only. The vans are self-contained and need nothing from your house. One dog at a time, one stylist start to finish, no cages. They screen first, and they say plainly that not every dog suits one-on-one mobile service.

Lucky Dawg Pet Services. (310) 784-0566. Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance, Lomita, San Pedro, Harbor City, Carson, Wilmington, Palos Verdes Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes. Dogs and cats. They need a parking spot at the house or in the driveway and an outlet they can reach, and they carry a 100-foot cord. Closed Sundays. They do not sedate cats. There is a salon as well, at 2923 Rolling Hills Road in Torrance.

Bark and Mane of Beach Cities West. (310) 504-0709. Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance, Lomita, Harbor City and the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Dogs and cats. Book online, or call or text. Formerly Aussie Pet Mobile Beach Cities West, and their own site still carries the rename notice, so the old name turns up in searches.

Woofie’s of Torrance. (310) 254-9791. Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, El Segundo, Torrance, Gardena, Hawthorne, Lawndale, San Pedro and the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Dogs. They also sell pet sitting and dog walking, which is useful if you want one company covering a trip.

Daisy Mobile Pet Grooming. (310) 779-0714. The beach cities, Torrance, Lomita, El Segundo, Carson, Hawthorne and Lawndale. Dogs and cats, phone booking only. They offer de-skunking on 24-hour call, which matters more up the hill than you would think.

Pink Paws Wash. (310) 947-7076. Says the South Bay without naming cities, so ask whether your street is covered. Dogs and cats, Monday through Saturday.

What does the van need from your house?

This is the question nobody thinks to ask until the van is outside. The two operators who publish a requirement sit at opposite ends of it.

Barkbus states its vans are fully self-contained and need no water or power from the house. Lucky Dawg needs a parking spot at the house or in the driveway plus an outlet they can reach, and carries a 100-foot cord to bridge the distance. The other four publish nothing on this, so ask when you book.

On the Peninsula this is worth settling in advance, because a long private drive and a detached garage can put the nearest outlet further from the curb than a cord will reach.

Do any of them groom cats?

Four of the six. Lucky Dawg, Bark and Mane, Daisy and Pink Paws all take cats. Barkbus and Woofie’s are dogs only for the mobile service. Lucky Dawg adds that they do not sedate cats, which is the thing to confirm with any of them if your cat is the reason you are calling.

What does it cost?

None of them publish a flat price, and that is not evasion. Mobile grooming is quoted per dog by size, coat and condition, so a standard poodle in a matted coat and a smooth-coated beagle are different jobs.

Ask three things in the same call: what it costs, whether your street is in the service area, and what the van needs from your house. Those three answers decide whether the booking works, and getting them one at a time costs you a week.

What happens after the groom?

Nothing, if your paperwork is current. If you have recently moved, the licensing clock may already be running: who issues your license and what it costs changes at every city line, and most South Bay cities give you thirty days from the day you take up residence.

The mobile groomers working here, the cities each one covers and what the van needs from your house are in The Local’s Guide to Pets in the South Bay. Download it here.
